Shadow Says…

Hello! I am glad to meet you…and just about anybody I ever meet. Sometimes at a stranger’s home or another place I get a little shy, but usually start relaxing when some playing gets going. If my tail is a little tucked under it usually means I’m a little uncertain, but I am very willing to please and do what my master / my alpha-person wants me to do.

Around other dogs I love to just fit in. People tell my alpha-person they can’t believe I’m only a year old, because I am so calm and pleasant. I am pretty big, but I am not rough unless my dog-buddies are all playing hard and everybody is having a rumble romp, chasing each other or a ball. My alpha-person buddy wrestles with me and plays tug-o-war and I chase my favorite ball when somebody throws it. I like to play a lot.

I am curious because I am…well… a dog. I like exploring and going for walks. I am a good walker. I will tug you along, but if you just pull back on my leash, quickly and firmly and say; “Get back”, I will hang beside you.

My alpha-person knows I am pretty smart. My Labrador intelligence and my poodle intelligence is a good blend. He thinks I can learn a lot more word commands, but I know a few pretty well and I like them.

“Do your business” said friendly encouragingly, means I can and should go pee or poop. Sometimes when I’m too curious though my alpha-person says it more sternly.

“Sit” – what can I tell you here?? I will sit.

“Stay” is a word I like, especially when I sit and you give me a hand-sign like when a policeman halts traffic right near my nose, then I know I need to stay sitting until you tell me to do something else… like “come”.

“Come” – I love this word! It means come get my 6am breakfast or come get my dinner 12 hours after breakfast. It also means come to you if I’m thinking about chasing a squirrel or going to meet another dog. I get stubborn sometimes because I just love meeting new friends…well maybe squirrels aren’t but everybody else is!

“Out” means I need to clear out of the way or a room that’s a little too busy or crowded.

“Wanna’ Go Out?” – is what my alpha-person says when he thinks I might need to go outside and pee or poop…or sometimes just to go play. I usually cock my head and/or perk up my ears and act real interested in going out. Sometimes I will go to the door and stand there near it and my alpha-person’s brilliance tells him…”Shadow needs to go out.” My alphas are pretty amazing.
