Species: Dog
Breed: Golden Retriever / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Copper has lived outside in
a backyard for a little over two years (his entire life), with nothing but a
small igloo house. He hashad only little love and affection until
now. Poor guy is outside through the rain, snow, thunder and lightening.
Children play around him, but he is never seen being given attention.
A wonderful man named Larry, Coppers new friend, befriended his owners and
convinced him to let him take him to the vet and groomer. The vet (we
have records) has given him a clean bill of health and the mats in his fur
causing him discomfort have been trimmed away. Copper is a new boy!!! Photos of Copper before in the tall grass with matts and after as he is now soft as a cat, are attached.
Though Copper has been neglected, please know he has not been abused and will
not flinch at all. He warms up to people and children quickly and is very
submissive. He is getting out to public places with his new friend and
getting used to other dogs, though he is nervous around some, he is not at all
aggressive. He loves to be pet, have his belly rubbed and just get the
attention he has been craving for the past two years, he has even learned to sit. Copper has a medium to
long coat and will need to be brushed on a regular basis so he will never have
to feel the pain of mats again.
He will need to be house trained, but at his age should not take very
long. Larry has given him love and affection and knows Copper loves
people (and I personally spent time with him and he is a sweet boy). At
his age, it will not take very long to house train him, with persistence and
love, I do not see it taking longer than a week or so to have that feat
accomplished. He will probably do well with a home with an existing dog
as he would probably learn from another dog and want to please his new mom and
dad. However, he would do well as an only dog also.
All applications will be reviewed thru Recycled Pets and a small adoption fee
to help re-coop some of the vet and grooming bills Larry has incurred will be
requested from the adopter. Recycled Pets is helping Larry, because he is
doing the right thing in helping the owners find a good and loving home for
Copper. We currently do not have space for him, but feel the need to
assist in placing this sweet boy. Ultimately, Larry and the current owner
of Copper will do the final review of our approved application and make the
connection for the adoption to be finalized.
